Sold Horses Revisited

When you buy a horse from Island View you can trust that we wont sell you a cat in the bag.
We want our horses to be happy in their new homes and we are very honest about what you are getting and whether we think you and the animal suit each other.

We like to know that the horses we sell are happy in their new home. We will inform you about any known vices, ailments or peculiarities. We will also advise you whether the animal suits you or not. Nothing is more rewarding for us than finding the right person for our horses. It is also nice for us to know how the animals are getting on once they leave the farm So, if you bought a horse here then would love to hear back from you.

Dear Ursula,

This is George. We brought him home on the 31/12/06 and he has been nothing than an angel since. He has a new best fiend and stable mate, a little Welsh Mountain called Rusty. They are inseparable. Last season we brought him jumping and every time we got a clear round and he loved it as much as I did. At home we ride him in the fields and hack him on the road and up the lane way. He has never refused anything we want him to do. Even though he is 4 he is acting way more mature for his age which makes him a pleasure to ride. He is very cheeky and is so curious we decided his show name would be “Curious George”. When we call out in the field he will come running for a treat or a chat. He has definitely become a member of the family and we all love him to bits.

Since I was a little girl, my dream was to one day own a grey Irish horse. So buying Oilean Rakish Suzy was more than your average purchase, she was a dream come true.

Being sold this amazing mare by Uschi and Raymond was like visiting old friends. I had all the time in the world to get to know her on a couple of visits to Sligo, before Uschi, Elisa and Julie embarked on an all-night car and horsebox trip to Kilkee in Co. Clare to deliver her to me while I was on holidays there. They stayed on the next day to make sure we were ok on our own and left Solas in my care, not without my promise of breeding her one day.

Raymond had gone through the trouble of organizing a made-to-measure saddle from Northern Ireland so that we were ready to start our adventure without further delay. So off we went! After 6 weeks of enjoyment in the west Clare countryside Solas (as we call her) embarked on a 1 week transfer to Germany where she arrived unscathed and distinctly unruffled. We have now been working steadily for the last 2 1/2 years since she came to us and are enjoying dressage like we never thought we would. Last year we undertook two 100 km cross-country treks and traveled to the Dutch North Sea coast for a week of beach and bare back riding. Recently she has been for a 12-week training stint with Andreas Hornermann, Sattelmeister at the Hessischen Landesreit- und Fahrschule in Dillenburg , Germany . Andreas taught Solas and myself the finer things in life for a dressage horse and rider and next season we will be ready to start competing. We have also just completed a 3-day training work shop to bring our training to a new level.

Solas has proven herself a fantastic animal, a steady teacher to a now 38-year-old wannabe rider, a lovely family member and first mount to our not yet 3-year old son Phoenix Remington. She enjoys long rides in the countryside as much as varied training sessions in the indoor arena and is always the healthiest horse in the yard. Many thanks to Island View for letting me have this fantastic horse, I know how particular you guys are.

Take care and hopefully catch up some more soon.
